U of L Research Projects Get Federal Funding

Three research initiatives at the University of Louisville are getting nearly $3 million in federal funds earmarked in the fiscal 2010 budget.                            U of L's Department of Physics and Astronomy will receive 350-thousand dollars to study weather and climate.    Associate Professor Timothy Dowling (pictured, second from right) says this is an ideal place for such research."Just in the last two years, the University of Louisville, even just the campus down here, has been hit by an earthquake, a tornado, a historic flood, an ice storm and a windstorm,  all  in the last two years.   I use those examples with my students.  In fact we start out every year with a blog, what was your most memorable weather experience and they've all been talking about things that have been happening in the last 24 months," Dowling said. The other earmarks will be used for Department of Defense studies at U of L on battlefield injuries and the use of radio frequency ID tags in logistics and distribution. The money was secured by Congressman John Yarmuth and U.S. Senators McConnell and Bunning.
