U of L Students Stage Walkout

More than 200 University of Louisville students gathered on campus Wednesday to rally against proposed cuts in state higher education funding, and the tuition increase that would be needed to offset the cuts.Student Jennifer Wallin helped organize the protest. She says tuition is already too high.“People can still kind of afford school, some people can’t," she says. "But their working so many jobs that they’re not getting what they want out of their education."But U of L Provost Shirley Willinghanz says tuition increases are often a necessary burden.“The University has to raise more money in order to keep operating at the same level when the public funds shrink," she says.Willihnganz says the size of the tuition hike is dependent on the final state budget being negotiated in Frankfort.
