U-of-L to Conduct Two-Year Study in the West End

The University of Louisville will conduct a new, two-year health study in the city’s West End. The Anthem Foundation provided 600-thousand dollars for the project. The health department conducted screenings in west Louisville about a year ago. Researchers then were looking for any possible pollution-related health problems.Lead researcher Sumanth Prabhu says this time around the study will focus on environmental risks for heart disease, but won’t ignore other factors."We’re going to look at things that have already been established to be harbingers of heart disease, we will do this using the medical history and examination of lab studies, things like diet and physical activity, body weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar, all of those things will be considered," says Prabhu.Prabhu says researchers hope to screen about one-thousand patients.
