U of L's Felner Indicted (Updated)

Former University of Louisville Education Dean Robert Felner has been indicted. On Wednesday U.S. Attorney David Huber announced ten counts of mail fraud, money laundering and tax evasion for Felner, and four similar charges for Felner’s associate, Thomas Schroeder. The two are charged with taking $1.7 million from the University of Rhode Island and nearly $600 thousand from U of L. Felner also allegedly avoided about half a million dollars in taxes.Felner entered a not guilty plea Thursday and was released after posting a $100,000 bond.Schroeder is expected to appear in U.S. District Court FridayU.S. Attorney David Huber says further charges and investigations are unlikely.“What we’re going to do is concentrate on the charges that we have and we think sufficient justice will be done in the end based on the charges that we have," he says.U of L is also looking into allegations that Felner helped a student earn a fraudulent PhD from the school. Huber says that’s not part of his jurisdiction and will remain a University matter.
