UK Unveils New Tailgating Plan For Students

The University of Kentucky has released new rules for tailgating to address concerns over fighting and disorderly behavior in areas near Commonwealth Stadium. The new plan will be in effect for Saturday's game against Georgia. The Lexington Herald-Leader reportsthat the area where students are allowed to tailgate will be expanded but it will be closed off an hour after the game's kickoff. The plan comes in response to fighting and arrests at the Kentucky-Western Kentucky game on Sept. 15. That resulted in a ban on alcohol and live music at the following game. The ban was later lifted as the new plan was being formulated, but police presence was increased.Banned now are any open flames, including grills. The expanded area is along Cooper Drive near the stadium.UK officials say the plan is the result of discussions among student government, university officials and law enforcement.
