University of Louisville Begins Construction of Innovation Park

Mayor Greg Fischer and University of Louisville President James Ramsey celebrated on Wednesday the beginning of construction for a new building in the Nucleus Innovation Park.“We’ve got a new research park here. It’s going to be a hot spot of collaboration and innovation and of course a spot where many, many jobs are going to be created,” said Fischer.Nucleus is University of Louisville’s life sciences corridor and is meant to provide space for businesses working in life sciences to relocate or start up in downtown Louisville.Two existing buildings in the area are already full, and the school has received seven letters of intent for potential occupants of the new building, which will be part of a separate four-building park.Signature HealthCARE is one of the seven businesses that have signed letters of intent to be tenants in the new building. Signature will focus on developing products and services for the aging. Fischer says Louisville should be considered the global headquarters for lifelong wellness and aging care.“Talent wants to be around talent. So if you’re in the life long wellness and aging care anywhere in the world you want to come and locate in Louisville and grow your business here,” said Fischer.The new building will take around 16 months to complete and will cost about $18 million. The four-building park that will create an estimated 6,000 jobs.
