An Indiana Senate leader says a proposed statewide smoking ban won’t be considered in his chamber and is likely dead this session. The Indiana House passed the measure Tuesday, but Senate President Pro Tem David Long says it won’t be considered on his side of the Capitol this session amid worries that it could hurt some businesses.Jessica Kelly of the Indiana Chapter of the American Lung Association said the House-passed measure was watered down."They added some things like exemptions for bars and taverns, some retail tobacco stores, private clubs and a few other places, and also included some pre-emption for casinos and gaming sites so that local communities and cities could not s that were stronger than what was passed at the state level," she says.Kelly says the Lung Association will continue to push for a comprehensive ban.Senator Long didn’t rule out a statewide ban being considered in a future session.
