Voter Registration Deadline for Primary Election Next Week

The deadline to register to vote in the Kentucky primary election is next Monday.Applications to register for the first time, change political party or update an address will be taken until the close of business. Residents can drop off their voter registration cards at various locations, including the election center, vehicle service branches and  Metro Hall.Since the last election, residents in Jefferson County have seen their Metro Council and congressional districts change. The General Assembly redrew the congressional lines to now include part of Kentucky’s Fourth Congressional District seat in the county.Jefferson County Clerk spokesman Nore Ghibaudy says redistricting council seats will affect tens of thousands of voters, but most voters can find their updated information online."The polling location possibly could change and most likely their precinct has changed and so that’s what is coming around the corner and they’ll be checking ‘where do I vote?’ And that will affect 14,000 people in Jefferson County," he says. "We actually do have a section on the opening page of the Jefferson County Clerk’s website that actually says, ‘where do I vote?’ And I think that when they pull that up they can see a sample ballot and that kind of explains and answers a lot of their questions. It’s been the most helpful tool that we’ve had."The primary is May 22.
