Voter Turnout Low In Jefferson County

by Gabe BullardVoter turnout for today's primaries has not met expectations in Jefferson County.Jefferson County Clerk Bobbie Holsclaw says primary turnout is generally low, but she was expecting the races for the U.S. Senate and the Louisville mayor's office to drive voters to the polls. That hasn't happened in many precincts, she says, and the weather could be partly to blame."Rain always has a bearing upon it," she says. "We always look forward to a nice, sunny day for elections, but it has been raining some and hopefully that's going to stop and will bring them out also."Hosclaw says despite the low turnout, voting has gone smoothly overall. She says if the weather clears up, there could be a surge at the polls in the evening, when voters leave work. The polls close at 6.
