Water Main Repairs to Begin This Week

Repairs on the broken water main at Floyd and Warnock streets will begin this week. The 80-year-old pipe burst last Monday, releasing more than 40 million gallons of water into the University of Louisville's Belnkap campus and the surrounding area. The break also caused a severe drop in water pressure and put much of central Louisville under a boil advisory for several days.Louisville Water Company crews have begun moving a roadside embankment near the four-foot-wide pipe. A spokeswoman says the repairs will take about three weeks. Several lanes of Eastern Parkway could be closed for much of that time. The spokeswoman further says the cost of the repairs will come from a contingency fund and not a rate increase. The president of the water company thanked and apologized to customers in a statement released Friday.
