Wayside Preparing For One More Inspection

Wayside Christian Mission needs one more inspection to continue operating its hotel in downtown Louisville through November 2010.The hotel opened this month as a way to sidestep a delayed ruling from the zoning board on whether a shelter can operate downtown. Rooms in the former Hotel Louisville building are available at one penny per night for residents of Wayside's emergency shelters.Wayside passed two health inspections last week and will have a follow-up inspection next month that will last for another year.About 80 women and children are currently staying in the hotel. Wayside Director Nina Moseley says once all of the permits have been granted, she would like to renovate several rooms that have been uninhabitable since the Hotel Louisville closed earlier this year."We'd like to open some more because we still have folks on the waiting list that are still in our emergency shelters, but there's a little work to be done on some of the rooms—maintenance items and that type of thing," she says.A ruling from the zoning board on the building’s status as a shelter is not expected until next year.
