Weak Economy Hurts Local Blood Donations

The softened U.S. economy has affected local blood donations in the Louisville area. Red Cross spokesperson Loni White says the agency hasn’t been able to arrange as many blood drives as hoped this summer. She says fewer businesses are willing or able to host the drives."It affects how many blood drives we can actually get up during the summertime," says White. "Because there aren’t any businesses there sometimes, perhaps a business that was very a reliable business for us before, maybe a small business, has gone under, so that’s not a routine, every day blood drive we can count on anymore."White says the Red Cross has set a goal of 30-thousand donations between June 21st and September 21st. Right now, they’re about 15-thousand donations short.
