It's the beginning of April, which means it's the start of the busiest social season of the year in Louisville. Before the equestrian-related frivolity really gets started, here are a few options for your weekending.
The monthly First Friday Trolley Hop is always a fun way to pop in and out of a few of Louisville's best galleries and shops -- assuming the weather is good, which it looks to be tonight. There are a few nods to the races with horse-related art at CRAFT(s) Gallery, Revelry Boutique Gallery, and Paul Paletti Gallery. Events generally run from 5-11 p.m.
Saturday evening, there's an opportunity to hear what's on the minds of teenage girls at Lip Gloss Diaries, a poetry slam event featuring young women aged 15-18. Along with the poetry competition, there will be a couple dance performances. It's free, no tickets required, at the Kentucky Center for the Performing Arts, with a lobby reception at 6 p.m. and the show at 7 p.m.
For something a little less family-friendly (and I'm not saying that like it's a bad thing), head over to the Tim Faulkner Gallery on Saturday night for "Pop Art Pop-Up." Music by local DJs, live body painting, sword swallowing (yep) and live art-making are all promised. The event runs from 8 p.m. to 1 a.m.
