Weekend Arts Roundup: Improv, Exercise And Audio

Courtesy Louisville Ballet

We're going unconventional this weekend with arts options: improvisation, workouts (and donuts) with ballet dancers, and a listening project with audience participation.

Are you finished with your taxes yet? Because of a holiday in Washington, D.C., on April 15 (what?), the actual due date this year is April 18, so you've got the weekend to wrap things up. The Louisville Improvisors invite you to bring "your shoebox of receipts and a #2 pencil" to The Bard's Town on Friday night at 10 p.m., and they'll show you "deductions you've never dreamed of." Probably not deductions that your CPA would approve, but worth a try?

It's never fun to be that person in the back of the Zumba class who looks like a drunken elephant, but if everybody's had a couple of mimosas ... well, who's counting? An event this Saturday at the Louisville Ballet studios is blending workouts with food, drinks, and live music. B315 is a fundraiser for the ballet company and will feature exercise classes all day long, with styles including yoga, hip-hop dance and barre fitness (of course). With food trucks and booze available for purchase. Tickets are $25 for the day.

A unique kind of theater project is happening this weekend at a new arts venue in Portland: 1619 Flux (at 1619 W. Main St.) is hosting the Human Frequency Project, a Theatre [502] production. They're calling it a "one-on-one theatrical event" that invites participants to tell personal stories to one other person. And I hear there may even be a pillow fort on the premises? The listening station will be available for several hours each day through Wednesday (including some time for Spanish speakers), followed by a "report out" and performance on April 21 at 7:45 p.m. Check here for times and details.
