Year 2016 is drawing to a close and it has been an often tumultuous year for the city of Louisville.
Homicides and shootings have spiked to an all time high, including some that took place at public events. There were shots fired during the Pegasus Parade, and two people were killed after gunfire erupted at a community football game on Thanksgiving Day in Shawnee Park.
Louisville also remains in the grip of a heroin crisis.
But some good things happened this year, too, including a much needed financial boost for the Russell neighborhood; the city is getting nearly $30 million in federal funds for revitalization efforts. And in the glare of an international media spotlight, Louisvillians came togetherperhaps like never before following the passing of native son, Muhammad Ali.
