WFPL has been honored with eight news coverage awards, including five first-place honors, from the Indiana Associated Press Broadcasters Association.The awards recognize work produced in 2010:Newscast, 1st PlaceWebsite, 1st PlacePublic Affairs Program, 1st Place, State of Affairs, "War Journalism"Use of Sound, 1st Place, Graham Shelby, "Actors Theatre Audio Description Program"Best Reporter, 1st Place, Gabe BullardContinuous Coverage, 2nd Place, Gabe Bullard, "Louisville Orchestra Bankruptcy"News Series, 2nd Place, WFPL Staff, "Next Louisville"General News Reporting, Honorable Mention, Rick Howlett, "JCPS Student Assignment Plan"The awards, recognizing AP member radio and TV stations across Indiana and surrounding states, were handed out Saturday night in Indianapolis.
Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
