Whitesburg Oil Wholesaler Violated Water Regs

The Kentucky Department for Environmental Protection has cited a Whitesburg petroleum wholesaler for contaminating the city’s water supply.  Don Childers of Childers Oil Company could pay up to $25,000 for every day he violated state environmental regulations, including one that prohibits unlawful discharges into the Kentucky River.  Whitesburg water plant workers detected petroleum in the drinking water on November first and immediately warned residents not to drink the water.  Now, state officials say the source of the petroleum was a leak from Childers’ plastic-lined oil storage pit on the river bank.  The site is still being cleaned up.
