Whitesburg Water Contaminated

Kentucky Division of Water officials have shut down the treatment plant in Whitesburg, Kentucky. After residents complained of a gasoline-like odor in the water, division officials found petroleum seeping into the north fork of the Kentucky River. They shut down Whitesburg’s water plant until all contaminants could be removed from reservoirs.City Clerk Garnet Saxon says Whitesburg residents can get free bottled water from the city while they wait for the state to confirm the safety of tap water.“We have to have the water tested and people can’t use that until we get a good test back," she says.Officials are trying to confirm the source of the leak. Saxon says she hasn’t heard of any nearby towns having contaminated water.
