Why golf is a four-letter word

Because tomorrow’s show is about golf and the Ryder Cup tournament which comes to Louisville this September, and because I’m a new player to this game, I thought I’d share a thought or two and hope to read yours. With only perhaps a dozen or so outings so far, I have already experienced a few of the highs and the lows. The highs of connecting for that sweet shot, and watching the ball sail far and high. The lows of chopping through the air and hitting nothing. Nothing. Or, taking that mighty swing and having the ball just bobble along the ground for a few yards. At such times, my Dad (my very patient teacher) simply says, “Welcome to the game of golf.” It is also at such times that I understand why it is appropriate that golf is a four-letter word.Still, those sweet shots are sweet enough to compel me to carry on to the next hole and the next game, and those perfect moments do lessen the blow of those club-throwing, expletive-muttering, clenched-teeth moments of frustration. In that respect, it seems golf is a lot like another four-letter word… life. The good helps carry you through the bad.So tell me… what have been your best moments on the course? And worst? (Watch your language please, this is a family-friendly blog!)…
