Williams Missing from Final Ad Push

The campaign for Republican David Williams has released its final ads in the race for Kentucky governor, but the GOP nominee isn't in either spot.Instead, a 30-second TV commercial entitled "Team" only features Williams's running mate, Agriculture Commissioner Richie Farmer, touting their jobs plan while trying to connect Democratic incumbent Steve Beshear to President Barack Obama."Can you believe that after endorsing Barack Obama, Steve Beshear has the nerve to ask for your vote? A vote for Beshear is a vote for Barack Obama’s War on Coal. We can do better. The Williams-Farmer team is pro-life and pro-coal. We’d appreciate your support," he says.Check it out:The campaign also released a 60-second radio ad entitled "Unforgettable," which alludes to Farmer's time as a University of Kentucky basketball player during the early 1990s. Unlike the television ad, the radio spot promotes Williams's endorsements from the Kentucky Fraternal Order of Police and Kentucky Right to Life. But it remains consistent with it's linkage of Beshear to Obama and overtures to Farmer's folk hero status as a basketball legend."Are you tired of the nasty campaign Steve Beshear is running? I am, too. Look, Kentucky is hurting and here’s what the campaign is really about. David Williams and I are opposed to Barack Obama," says Farmer. "We are pro-life, pro-coal, and we’ll eliminate the state income tax. We have a real plan to create real jobs. David and I have are endorsed by Kentucky Right to Life and the Fraternal Order of Police. If you want Obama out, and good jobs back into Kentucky, then please vote Williams and Farmer on Election Day."Political observers have pointed to the state Senate President's poor likability as an explanation for the last minute substitution. Polling shows Williams trailing Beshear by a 30-point margin and analysts have predicted a historic blowout.Williams is scheduled to appear on KET Monday night to debate Beshear and independent candidate Gatewood Galbraith.
