Wilson Seeks To Halt Execution

Lawyers for condemned Kentucky inmate Gregory Wilson will be in court Wednesday, asking a judge to halt Wilson's September 16 execution. Wilson's public defenders say putting him to death would be unconstitutional because he's mentally retarded. They also argue that further DNA evidence testing should be allowed in the case.Wilson is on Death Row for the kidnapping, rape and murder of Deborah Pooley in Kenton County in 1987.Governor Steve Beshear, who signed Wilson's death warrant last week, talked about the case during a stop in Louisville Tuesday."I'm sure they will file whatever legal proceedings they feel are appropriate and we will follow the court orders, whatever they may be,' he said.A hearing on the stay of execution request is Wednesday in Kenton County Circuit Court.
