Wilson's Attorneys File New Motions

Defense lawyers for Death Row inmate Gregory Lee Wilson have filed new motions with the Kentucky Supreme Court.Last Thursday, September 16th, a stay issued by Franklin Circuit Judge Phillip Shepherd prevented the Commonwealth from putting Gregory Lee Wilson to death by lethal injection.Attorney General Jack Conway appealed the stay to the Kentucky Supreme Court, but the high court couldn’t act until Wilson’s lawyers filed a timely response.A response has now been filed by public defender Dan Goyette of Louisville. Goyette says the Attorney General's motion is moot, and should be dismissed, because the death warrant for Wilson expired with the arrival of September 17th.Additional motions and responses, which will buy Wilson more time, are expected to be filed with the supreme court in coming days.Wilson was given the death penalty for the 1987 abduction, rape and murder of Newport restaurant manager Deborah Pooley.
