Women Candidates Stir Some Indiana Voters

Voting in Southern Indiana’s Floyd County has been heavier than previous elections. WFPL’s Elizabeth Kramer reports.Precinct inspectors around the county of this battleground state say people stood in long lines ready to vote at 6 a.m. There also were people outside campaigning for candidates. That includes Marietta Willman, who is spending the day outside a polling place in Floyds Knobs for city council incumbent Carol Shope.Willman says candidates like Hilary Clinton and Sarah Palin have helped create more awareness about voting women into public office."We have other women who are running, too," Willman sayts. "And that makes it an interesting race. I think we are going to have more women involved."In the race for Indiana governor, incumbent Republican Mitch Daniels is facing Democrat Jill Long Thompson.
