Work to Begin Soon on Renovation of Old Louisville Rowing Club Building

Louisville’s Waterfront Development Corporation is soliciting bids this week for a project to renovate the Louisville Rowing Club building. When the renovations are complete, the building will be used for water activities and environmental education. It’s a $60,000 project. Metro Government approved half of that in this year’s budget, and the rest comes from the Waterfront Development Corporation and private donations. Much of that money will go to upgrading the restrooms, but some will also go toward creating classrooms.Waterfront Development President David Karem says there will be space for the community rowing program and the adaptive rowing program, but also:“There’ll be opportunities for canoers and kayakers and educational opportunities for folks with regard to issues such as the water as an environment and safety and boat handling and issues like that,” he said. The building will be owned and managed by Metro Government, but the Waterfront Development Corporation is managing the project. They hope to have significant progress made by Memorial Day, when Mayor Greg Fischer will hold his Hike Bike and Paddle event.
