Yarmuth Discusses His Next Term, Lame Duck Session Goals

Third District Congressman John Yarmuth says he's concerned about the potential for partisanship in the House of Representatives over the next two years.Yarmuth has been re-elected to a third term, but many of his fellow Democrats have lost their seats to Republicans. He says that increases the potential for debates on ideology, rather than issues."We're going to have probably a more polarized discussion over the next couple of years because we've lost of the moderate Democrats, conservative Democrats and there are some very conservative Republicans that have come into office."Yarmuth says there are a number of appropriations he would like to approve in the lame duck session that begins next week. He says the current congress must also address whether to extend the Bush tax cuts. And he hopes to legislatively repeal the military's "don't ask, don't tell" policy. For more comments from Yarmuth, visit The Edit.
