Yarmuth Hopes for New Committee Assignment in January

Congressman John Yarmuth is trying to secure a position on the House Ways and Means committee.Congress convenes this week in a lame duck session. Depending on legwork done last week on Capitol Hill, lawmakers may or may not pursue another economic stimulus package. Legislators WILL select leaders, and set the stage for committee assignments in January. Yarmuth says he’d like to join the House Ways and Means committee.“I would like to participate in those discussions on a very deep basis. So we’ll see what happens with that, but I love my assignment on Education and Labor, I’d be very satisfied to stay on that committee," says Yarmuth.Yarmuth says he’s been encouraged by some party leaders to pursue a spot on the influential Ways and Means Committee, but he’s received no assurances.Meanwhile, in the Senate, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky says he expects to be easily re-elected to the post.
