Yarmuth Hopes Lawmakers Will Pass New Economic Stimulus Measure

Congressman John Yarmuth of Louisville says a good gauge of how the atmosphere in Washington has changed will be if lawmakers can get a second economic stimulus package passed in the lame duck session that starts next week. Democrats in the House approved a new package earlier this year, but it died in the Senate.Yarmuth says post-election, some things may have changed."There’s broad interest in doing a stimulus package in Congress," says Yarmuth. "I think it’s very bi-partisan, the only issue is going to be what the Senate will do and whether or not the President will sign it and those are things I guess will play out as we’re back next week and the week after."But Yarmuth says if stimulus plan backers can’t get the Senate on board, or convince President Bush to sign the bill, they’ll try again in January.
