Guessing the type of bourbon in a truffle, making your own cupcakes, and spending the evening at an art gallery are just some of the activities that online review site Yelp is planning for Wednesday night’s Art in Action. The event is the site’s biggest Louisville event to date.

Art in Action will bring together local businesses and non-profit organizations for an evening of food, drinks and exhibitions at Tim Faulkner Gallery in Portland. Yelp Louisville Community Manager Emily Hagedorn said the event will celebrate the city’s creativity. She said Yelp has similar large events around the world, but this is the first one for Louisville.

“Louisville is a creative town and we really wanted to kind of make this a celebration of that,” Hagedorn said.

There are about 40 sponsors taking part in the event.

“We have circus performers from Blue Moon Circus, a live spray paint artist, DJs, IxDA Louisville is bringing a body controlled laser arcade for people to play with, and we’ve been working with the Colon Cancer Prevention Project which is also based in Louisville,” Hagedorn said.

Some of the featured businesses include Irish Rover, Art Eatables, Bluegrass Brewing Company, Kentucky Science Center, the University of Louisville, and Broadway in Louisville. Hagedorn said the event is free to the public, but people have to RSVP through Yelp and there’s a $10 suggested donation at the door. The donation will go to the Colon Cancer Prevention Project.

Tim Faulkner, owner of Tim Faulkner Art Gallery, said he expects 400 to 500 people to participate in the event. He said Yelp Louisville had contacted him about using the gallery for their event.

“They were looking for a space to have this particular event and they looked around and they found us.  It was just a perfect fit,” Faulkner said.

Hagedorn said Faulkner’s gallery was perfect for the project.

“They took over what used to be an old factory and they’ve remade it into an art gallery, which completely fits into the creative space in Louisville,” Hagedorn said.

Tim Faulkner Art Gallery is located at 1512 Portland Ave. Art in Action begins at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The event is limited to guests 21 years and older; RSVP here.
