Youth Jobs Showcase To Be Held Next Month

The sixth annual Youth Opportunity Showcase is set for next month in downtown Louisville. The showcase, co-sponsored by several local and state agencies, gives young adults a chance to apply for summer jobs or, in some cases, full-time employment.Mayor Greg Fischer says employers have responded to a call he made during his State of the City address urging them to hire teens for the summer."We’ll have at least one thousand jobs available for teens in a wide variety of businesses and fields. Since that announcement at the Rotary Club (speech), I’ve had numerous business people and trade associations contact me to ask how they can help as well. So I’m optimistic that we’ll be well over one thousand," he said. Fischer says Churchill Downs, UPS, Home Depot and Taco Bell will be among The businesses interviewing at the showcase, which will be held March 5th at the Kentucky International Convention Center.

Rick Howlett was midday host and the host of LPM's weekly talk show, "In Conversation." He was with LPM from 2001-2023 and held many different titles, including Morning Edition host, Assignment Editor and Interim News Director. He died in August 2023. Read a remembrance of Rick here.
